Marvel’s Avengers Initiative arrives on Play Store, priced $4.99

“The Avengers initiative was shut down Agent Fury” is what they said in The Avengers, one of the highest grossing superhero movies of all time, and an extremely fun two and a half hour ride. But the Avengers Initiative is alive and kicking, at least in the form of a game for Android, that may or may not keep you happy till the next Avengers comes out.

Yes, Marvel has released Avengers Initiative for Android on the Google Play Store, for a promotional price of $4.99. Coming in episodic format, the first episode will see us playing as The Hulk and round up the “super‐powered criminals and monsters” that have escaped from The Vault, a “top‐secret S.H.I.E.L.D. facility in the Rocky Mountains”, while they assemble the rest of the Avengers, each of which we will get to play as in future episodes, which will come via updates to the game.

Our progress and achievements are tracked via Marvel XP, a live service similar to Xbox Live, which should keep players interested as they rack up points and get rewarded with more and more achievements. The game has nice high-definition visuals, and for Tegra device owners, there are upgraded character models, realistic clothing, life-like environments, and Iso-8 effects. It did seem to struggle on my Galaxy Nexus right from the start and even crashed, but I’m thinking the latter is due to Android 4.2, which the game may or may not be compatible with.

The game requires around 1.3GB of space on your device and is compatible with only Android 4.0 and above, which is quite normal for HD games these days. Hit the link below to head to the Play Store to download Avengers Initiative, and also see the list of supported devices (which is rather limited for now).
