LeoDroid Custom ROM for Galaxy S 2 (II)

If you want to install a custom ROM on your super-fast Galaxy S 2 android phone, there is one ROM worthy of recommendation. It’s the LeoDroid custom ROM, which looks real nice and isn’t anything too-much-in-face. it’s delicate and the blue tone of the theme matches up nicely with the Samsung’s subtle use of blue color in TouchWiz 4.0.

What’s more? Well, tis will also update your GS2 to new firmware, XWKE8. It’s not a CWM flash-able package and you are gonna play with Odin to install this. We’ve made a step-by-step guide that will surely help you out — check it out below.

Info and Warnings first:

[info]This guide is applicable only for Samsung’s Galaxy S 2 international version (i9100). Check your phone’s version under Settings – About Phone. [/info] Warning: Warranty may be void of your device if you follow the procedures given on this page. You only are responsible for your device. We wont be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

THIS IS NOT FOR GALAXY S i9000 (AND ANY OF ITS VERSIONS). In case you missed, it’s for GALAXY S 2 i9100 only.

Installation Instructions (Step-by-step Guide):

  1. Download the required stuff:
    1. LeoDroid ROM for Galaxy S 2. Filename: LeoDroid_CustomRom.rar; Version: 1.0; Download Link; Size: 274.76 MB.
    2. Odin3 (software using which you flash/install stuff on Samsung devices). Filename: Odin3-v1.85.zip; Download Link; Size: 198 KB.
    3. Samsung Kies. Download it from the Samsung’s own website for your zone. Install the Kies because there is no direct way to install drivers as of now. After installation, reboot PC if required. Connect the phone now to PC then and now it should show ALL the drivers properly installed. If not, open Kies and use the “Install Driver” option under the tools menu. This should install all the drivers properly. Connect the phone and make sure that all drivers have installed properly — you should not receive any error notification upon connecting the Galaxy S 2 with PC.
  2. Switch Off the phone. Wait for vibration to confirm complete Switch off.
  3. Extract the file you downloaded in step 1.1 to get this file: leodroid_customrom.tar.md5. DO NOT extract this file. (You will need to flash this file to install the LeoDroid custom ROM on Galaxy S 2.)
  4. Extract Odin file you downloaded in step 1.2 to get this file: Odin3 v1.85.exe. Open Odin by running this file (use double click).
  5. Now, put the phone in Download Mode — press and hold these keys together: Volume_DOWN+Home+Power. You’ll get the screen with “Odin mode” written at the top left.
  6. By now, you must have Odin opened and Galaxy S 2 in download mode. Make sure it is — nothing else in this step, actually.
  7. Connect your phone to PC now. Your Odin’s screen should look like this: Device Added Odin Screen LeeDroid
  8. Important, keep ‘Re-Partition’ and “Flash lock” checkboxes UNTICKED while keeping ‘Auto Reboot’ & ‘F. Reset Time’ checkboxes ticked.
  9. Click the PDA tab on odin and select the file ROM file you got in step 3 above — leodroid_customrom.tar.md5
  10. Double check steps 8 and 9.
  11. Press the Start button on Odin now. After LeoDroid ROM is flashed, phone will automatically restart. The whole process of flashing of ROM in Odin and phone restarting should not take more than 20 minutes.
  12. When the Odin process is complete, the box at the top left will goes Green — like this: LeeDroid Process Complete Odin Screen
  13. Disconnect the phone when message box in the bottom left shows device “Removed!” (as circled in the screenshot just above).

When the phone reboots, it will be running LeoDroid. Congrats!

LeoDroid Quadrant

Benchmark Scores – While Quadrant achieved the maximum of 3183 in few runs I took, Linpack’s score was highest at 47.283. but scores doesn’t mean much — the ROM is fast, so is the original firmware. this device is fast from day one!

BTW, the LeoDroid theme looks very beautiful to me. The work done is delicate and never-in-your-face sort of. The Blue color has been used for glow effect and also for customizing icons in the main settings. it’s just awesome, and you should try it.

That’s it. We hope you like this guide and it was helpful. If you have any suggestion about this guide, please let us know.

Do let us know your view about the LeoDroid. And also share this beautiful ROM — and this guide — with your friends.

Enjoy!
