Amazon Kindle Fire Officially Announced!

At the event that just took place, Amazon unveiled its Kindle Fire android tablet — which only nerds can identify to Android OS — and cleared the doubts on pricing and release date. Price is set at very very competitive $199 (of course, contract-free) and you can pre-order it now to get it shipping to you on November 15.

The Kindle Fire’s Specifications list is pretty good too, where Android 2.3 (laid very quietly), 7 inch IPS display with Gorilla glass protection and dual-core processor (presumably 1 GHz) impress a lot. Though, you’d miss the cameras (front/rear nothing’s there!), 3G and microphone.

It weighs just 14.6 ounces (413 grams approx), which makes it the lightest android tablet we’ve come to know except for these 2 upcoming tablets: Galaxy Tab 7.7 (335 grams) and Toshiba Thrive 7 inch (400 grams). And being an Amazon tablet, there is lot of proprietary stuff (Apps!) on this one: Amazon prime (for shopping), books, magazines, cloud storage, music, etc. You expected it anyway, right?

So, if you’re a heavy user of Amazon and its services, I think you would find it hard to not take one Kindle Fire home. What do you think?

  1. Where is the evidence that its 2.3 other than the predictive keyboard in the promo video?

    1. Amazon has tweaked it pretty heavily — we’re not sure whether even android market made it or not, and the guess is ‘not’. Because it has amazon’s app store installed.
