Jelly Bean Update denied for Acer Iconia A100, A200 and A500 tablets

After ASUS, the fastest manufacturer to bring Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 to their tablets was Acer, but according to a spokesperson for Acer Benelux, Acer may not be staying in the users’ good books for long, as the Iconia A100, A200, and A500 tablets have apparently been denied updates to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Now, while it is understandable for the Iconia A100 and A500 to not get the update as they were released way back in April of 2011 and have gotten one major Android update already, to deny updates to the Iconia A200, a device that was released early this year seems too evil on Acer’s part. Jelly Bean is not too major an update either compared to Ice Cream Sandwich, so I fail to see a reason for Acer to deny updates to these tablets. Even the hardware isn’t lacking, with all three tablets running on a dual-core Tegra 2 processor and 1GB of RAM.

Acer might go back on their words later on, but for now this is quite disappointing news for owners of either of the three tablets. Keep your fingers crossed and hope that Acer change their mind and see sense some fine day in the future.

  1. Well now, that’s the worst news I heard so far today. I did some
searching and it’s the same here in the U.S. No Jelly Bean for my A500.

  3. I’ll never buy another Acer anything. The JB update on my 500 has rendered it USELESS and everything that I use to love about it is now gone. Typical Google BS where they think they control everything-this ia not an Acer issue if you ask me. Acer probably doesn’t want to pay for the update. I HATE jelly bean.

    1. ehmm there is no JB for the Iconia A500 so I don’t know what kind of update you got. You probably installed something not official and beta, as there is no Jelly Bean for A500. In fact this article is about that…

  5. I agree, I won’t buy Acer anymore. The lack of a JB update is a terrible let down for consumers.
