JDI introduces 4.3″ 503 PPI and 7″ 431 PPI 1600p displays

Phew! Trust the Japanese to take breakthrough tech and make it small enough to put into your pocket. The recently launched Google Nexus 10 made by Samsung, rock 2560×1600 resolution display at a staggering 300 PPI, which is unarguably the highest resolution available currently on  any tablet.

Well, it turns out that a display tech company from Japan, aptly named JDI for Japan Display Inc, has come up with a Full HD LCD display, just 4.3 inches in size, but at 1920×1080 resolution and rocks a PPI value of 503. Can you beat that? To add to this feat, JDI is said to be adopting a different kind of pixel brightness tech – RGBW, which reduces the power consumption to half of the conventional LCD display at the same brightness level.

If just this wasn’t enough, JDI has also developed a 7-inch high resolution display which resolves at 2560×1600 – same as the Nexus 10. However, and hold your breath now, JDI’s display is packed with a whopping PPI or pixel density of 431! which is far higher than the 300 PPI on the Nexus 10. Imagine a display like that on the Nexus 7. I’m already drooling.

JDI is a joint venture between Hitachi, Toshiba & Sony, all pioneers in  the Japanese high-tech electronics space. The new JDI displays are likely to be adopted in future Sony Xperia phones, and I’m beginning to wonder if a bit of this hasn’t already found its way on the rumored Sony Yuga.
