Ingress: First Game from Google hits Play Store

This is one of those many things, that makes owning an Android device feel so good. A game which lets you explore a massive world, using your phone camera – only Google could have come up with something like that. And it has, in the form of Ingress, an augmented-reality map based multiplayer game, developed by Google’s Niantic Labs.

Ingress is still quite cryptic, but appears to have players walk around their city finding clues and solving mysteries by tapping locations when they discover magical properties through their smartphone’s camera, aptly keeping in line to its “The World around you is not what it seems” theme. Ingress has you play as a part of either of two warring factions, The Enlightened, or The Resistance. Anyone can join in the game, from anywhere in the world, and join forces to claim territories or find hidden objects whether you’re fighting for Enlightened or the Resistance.

What makes Ingress so cool, is that it gets the player to actually get outdoors and explore places in his local surroundings, rather than the typical sit in your couch and fire away type of game. The game is inspired by J.J Abrams, who directed the slick spy flick MI:3.

Ingress is available only for Android devices, for now, and is currently in closed Beta. You can still go ahead and download it on your Android phone, and request an invite at the Ingress home page to join the quest. To see what the buzz is all about, hit the download button below.
