Huawei has long been considered as an OEM and parts supplier for other companies’ products by most people, but the Chinese manufacturer has come out with some very impressive phones to the Android scene lately. And this around the company has come out with the Ascend D2, a 5 inch device with a rumoured 1080p resolution. The device is being touted as the poor man’s Galaxy Note with dimensions nearing a phone-tablet-hybrid.

Apart from the impressive display, other specs look interesting too. The processor is an undisclosed 1.5 GHz quad-core chip, which is a big leap from earlier models. Like some of other phones from Huawei, the Ascend D2 is expected to carry a processor designed and manufactured by Huawei itself. The amount of memory is not known yet, but looking at recent models from Huawei, it can be expected to be at least 2 GB.

Apart from the quad-core innards, the device also boasts a 13 megapixel camera, a 1.3 megapixel front camera, and an impressive 3000 mAh battery. Though Galaxy Note 2 packs a 3100 mAh, most phones in the sub 5 inch category have batteries in the 2000 mAh range. This gives the Huawei Ascend D2 a clear advantage over most devices in its category. The device is expected to run version 4.1 of Android, Jelly Bean. Unfortunately, for people outside China, there’s no release date as of now, but it’s expected to arrive sometime next year.
