How to SIM Unlock Galaxy S6 and S6 edge

SIM unlocking your Galaxy S6 can be a farcry if your variant has locked bootloader and cannot be rooted but thankfully we’ve PingPong Root that works even on the AT&T and Verizon Galaxy S6 variants which come with locked bootloader. However, that’s limited to the OE2 firmware update, if you’ve OE3 or any further updates installed on your device then PingPong would probably not work for you.

For Galaxy S6 variants which come with an unlocked bootloader but are carrier locked can easily be rooted with CF Auto Root tool by Chainfire. Rooting is a pre-requisite for SIM unlocking Galaxy S6 using the methods discussed below, if your Galaxy S6 variant couldn’t be rooted then the tools discussed below would not work for you.

Step 1: Root your Galaxy S6

Root method 1: PingPong Root

  1. Download PingPing Root APK file.
  2. Install PingPong Root apk on your Galaxy S6. It might also ask you to install SuperSU as well alongside. Do it.
  3. Open PingPong Root app and hit the “Get root!” button. The app will start processing and if it’s successfully rooted your device, you’ll get “It is recommended to reboot your device NOW” prompt.
  4. Reboot your Galaxy S6 and verify root access using this app.

Root method 2: CF Auto Root

[icon name=”download” class=””] Download CFAR for our Galaxy S6 variant from here [icon name=”download” class=””] Download Odin 3.10.6
  1. Download CF-Auto-Root for your device from the links above and extract the .zip file on your PC once it’s downloaded.
  2. Open Odin 3.10.6 on your PC.
  3. Boot your Galaxy S6 into Download mode:
    1. Switch off your phone.
    2. Press and hold “Home + Power + Volume down” buttons for a few seconds until you see a warning screen.
    3. Press Volume Up on the warning screen to accept it and boot into Download mode.
  4. Once your S6 is in download mode, connect it to the PC with a USB cable. The Odin window on PC should detect the phone and show an “Added!!” message.
  5. Now click on the PDA tab on Odin window and select the CF-Auto-Root (.tar.md5) file from the files you extracted in Step 1.
└ Note: DON’T play with any other options on the screen. You’re only required to connect your Galaxy S6 and select the CFAR file in PDA tab.
  6. Click the Start button on Odin and wait for it to finish the process. Once it has finished successfully, you’ll see a pass message on the Odin screen.
  7. Your phone will automatically reboot when Odin is done with its job. You can then disconnect your Galaxy S6 and your device will be rooted.

Step 2: SIM Unlock

Update: Get idone app and GT_Update apk files from the idone.apps official site [icon name=”external-link” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]
[icon name=”download” class=””] Download GTv3.1.5.apk file (idone app) [icon name=”download” class=””] Download GTUpdate2_v3.1.8.apk file (GTUpdate)
  1. Download both the apk files provided above to your Galaxy S6.
  2. Insert the GSM SIM card that you want to use.
  3. Install GTv3.1.5.apk file (idone app)
  4. Install GTUpdate2_v3.1.8.apk file.
  5. Open idone app and tap SIM UICC Unlock. Once done, reboot your Galaxy S6.
  6. Now go to Settings > Mobile networks > Network mode > and select GSM/UMTS.

You should now have signal on your Galaxy S6 and it should be ready to make calls.

  9. Hi, I’m Nodial, developer partner of Idone,

GalaxyTools is our old software, please don’t use it as it isn’t supported anymore.
We added a lot of features in our new application and created it to be simple, with just one click you will Unlock, read MSL, de-brand, enable Wi-Fi Hotspot & USB Tethering and set Hotspot connection to the maximum supported by your device!
    It works even on 5.1.1

    Here is the tool: http://idoneapps.com/unlock.apk
    and here the instructions: http://idoneapps.com/instructions.php

    7. Hi Kurt,

SuperSu is uninstalled by our app, that’s normal, you can install it later when the phone is unlocked.

Hmm we had a bug on 1.06 preventing the unlock app to reboot in certain conditions, can you be sure you’re using 1.07 version?

If you’re using 1.07 please tap on options (3 dots menu button and tap on “Send Log”).

    8. Thanks for quick reply on New Year’s Eve…ok I see v1.07 on the screen. Gcf button is lit up and I can access it. I don’t have apn option in networks? Log was sent via email. Awaiting instructions. Thanks!

    9. Fine Kurt,

I received the log and I noticed your phone is a Note3 with an old rom.
S4, S4T and Note3 requires a special modem in order to be unlocked, additionally that old rom is even untested.

Can you join our forum and download our rom?
It’s the latestest stock rom + the special modem + root:

  11. How long will it take for the code to be emailed? After the payment has been process.

    1. It’s instantaneous as it’s a web service.

    2. I payed for a similar service a few weeks ago, but they couldn’t find the code for my sprint Galaxy s6. If it doesn’t work, will I get my money back?

    3. Which option should I choose just for SIM unlock? I already have my MLS code.

  12. Hi Pedro, the service to retrive MSL may not work with all phones, it isn’t an app, while the unlock one is an app, it works always for all supported phones.
The app one is this one:
Samsung Phone unlock service for final user (Single unlock)

    1. Thank you so much. Did it, easy peacy. Would recommend to anyone trying to unlock they’re phone. 5stars all the way.

    2. Thanks!
      Your comment is very appreciated!

  17. I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge that is blacklisted and the unlock app gives the error “Failure in processing the request. Please reboot and try again.” Even though I reboot I still get the error. I wish to use it outside the USA, will your unlock service work for my phone?
