How to Root Verizon Galaxy S6 G920V with PingPongRoot tool

Samsung and Verizon may put all their guts to stop people from tampering their devices and gain root access, but developers find their way around anyway. The last time a premium Samsung phone from Verizon was rooted, it was done with the help of TowelRoot, but Samsung soon patched the exploit. But it’s happening again now. The Keen Team from Shanghai has just released PingPongRoot tool that’s capable of rooting a number of Galaxy S6 devices, including that of Verizon’s SM-G920V model.

The PingPongRoot tool, as the Keen Team explains, is named so “because the vulnerability affects ping socket” and the team is Chinese. The tool is pretty easy to use, in fact, it’s easier than setting up your phone for the first time. All you do is download and install the pingpongroot.apk file, open the app and tap “Get root!” …and you’re rooted.

However, the tool has so far only been tested on the Chinese variant of Galaxy S6 SM-G9200. It’s currently in beta testing. Also, only a number of firmwares are supported by PingPongRoot at this time but surprisingly, the Verizon Galaxy S6′ G920VVRU1AOC3 firmware is already supported by the tool.

To test it out on your Verizon Galaxy S6 G920V, just grab the .apk file from the download link below, install it and tap “Get root!”.

  1. Download the party_beta1.7z file from the link above and extract it using 7-zip.
  2. You’ll get pingpongroot_beta1.apk file. Transfer it to your Verizon Galaxy S6 and install the apk normally like you’d install any other .apk file on your device.
└ For help, check out our detailed guide on → How to install APK files on Android.
  3. Open the PingPongRoot app on your device and hit the “Get root!” button to begin the fun.
  4. If it asks you for a couple of permissions, accept them and let it roll.

Verizon Galaxy S6 getting rooted already is pretty exciting. Let us know in comments below about how it goes for you.

  1. not working on g920v

    1. If you updated to latest software via update, then PingPong root won’t work as it’s been patched in updates that came after the tool was released.
What’s your software version right now, or build no.?

    2. Should I roll back to 5.1.1? Im currently on 7.0 and the SM-g920v

    3. Same problem here.
