How to Root OnePlus One on CM12S Lollipop update

If you just updated your OnePlus One to Android 5.0 Lollipop thanks to just released CyanogenMod 12S, then you may be looking to root it back. The CM12S was one of the most anticipated update, and luckily its root is already available. This CM12S root gets you root access in both apps and ADB.

All you need to root OnePlus One on CM12S, Lollipop update, is a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM, and a root file provided below. Download the root file and then boot into recovery to flash it. Once done, reboot and your OnePlus One will be rooted again. Though you will need to enable it, which is explained in the guide below.

Warning: Warranty may be void of your device if you follow the procedures given on this page. You only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

Important Note: Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files.

  1. Transfer the root file to your device’s internal storage and remember the location where you save them.
  2. You need TWRP recovery for this. Get it from here.
  3. Boot into Recovery mode.
  4. Make a backup. Once in TWRP recovery, take a backup of your current ROM. Select Backup, then do a “Swipe to Back Up” on the bottom of the screen. Wait for the backup to finish, it’s a time consuming process.
  5. Install the Root now. Go back to the main menu of TWRP recovery and select Install. Navigate to the file where you saved your root’s zip file, select it and “Swipe to Confirm Flash” on the bottom of the screen. Now wait until the flashing process finishes.
  6. Go to back to recovery’s Main menu, select Reboot » select System.
  7. Go to settings – about phone. Tap build no. 7 times to unlock developer options.
  8. Go back to settings, and now into developer options.
  9. Select the Root Access checkbox to enable root access for apps that ask for it, and in ADB.
  10. If need be, open SuperSU app – Settings, and keep the ‘Respect CM root settings’ option unchecked.

That’s it. If you need any help with this, let us know via comments below.

  7. How can I go to recovery without root in Twrp?

    1. Power off your phone. Then hold volume down + power together to reboot into recovery mode. If you have TWRP installed, you will see TWRP, otherwise stock Cyanogen recovery.

    2. Thank you,
I dont have root access so twrp is uselesss…. However, all zips or img I try to flash by pressing update in cm recovery fails. I’m on stock cm12s and 5.0.2.
