XXJVO ODIN Installation

Hey there, here’s the latest leak of Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread for your Galaxy S i9000, XXJVO. Enjoy! Warning: Warranty may be void of your device if you follow the procedures given on this page. You only are responsible for your device. We wont be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components. [info]This guide is applicable only for Samsung Galaxy S international version (i9000). If yours is Vibrant/Captivate/Fascinate/Epic 4G or any other Galaxy S variant, then this ROM — and Guide — is not for you, and that’s for definite.[/info]

Like all the previously leaked ROMs, this also came in two versions: one with_bootloaders and the other without_bootloaders. Flashing with_bootloaders version is considered riskier than without_bootloaders. But you have to flash with_bootloaders because this is required by Android 2.3, unless you’ve already done that while installing earlier leaked ROMs — XWJV1, XXJVK, XWJVB or XWJVH. If you haven’t installed JV1, JVK, JVB or JVH with bootloaders before, then you have to install XXJVO with_bootloaders.

Installation Video

The video below shows an installation of the previously leaked XWJVB ROM, but the installation process is same for both the leaked ROMs, so you can refer to this video if you experience problems with flashing.

Follow this step-by-step guide to Install XXJVO Android 2.3.3 ROM on your Galaxy S:

  1. Download XWJVH with_bootloaders version. File name — GT_I9000_XXJVO_XXJVO_OXAJVO_Sbl.exe. Download Link. Size: 148.47 MB.  [If you already have Android 2.3 bootloaders, download XXJVO without_bootloaders version. File name — GT_I9000_XXJVO_XXJVO_OXAJVO.exe. Download Link. Size: 148.25 MB. Apply the procedures below accordingly.]
  2. Double click ‘GT_I9000_XXJVO_XXJVO_OXAJVO_Sbl.exe’ and select Extract to let the file extract its contents in the folder “GT_I9000_XXJVO_XXJVO_OXAJVO_Sbl” — you’ll get 3 files in this folder:
    1. CSC_OXAJVO.tar.md5
    2. PDA_XXJVO_Sbl.tar.md5
    3. PHONE_XXJVO.tar.md5
  3. Download Odin3 v1.7.zip from here — Mediafire Link. Extract the zip file to get Odin3 v1.7.exe.
  4. Disconnect your phone if it’s connected to PC.
  5. Switch Off your phone. Wait for vibration to confirm complete switch off.
  6. Now, put it in Download Mode — press and hold these keys together: “Volume_DOWN + Home + Power”.
  7. Open Odin (from step 3). Connect your phone to PC now. You should get the message “Added! !” under the Odin’s message box.
  8. Important, uncheck the ‘Re-Partition’ button. While, keep ‘Auto Reboot’ & ‘F. Reset Time’ boxes checked.
  9. In Odin, place these files (check out the screenshot given at the top for help):
    1. In the PDA box, select this file (from step 2.2) — PDA_XXJVO_Sbl.tar.md5
    2. In the Phone box, select this file (from step 2.3) — PHONE_XXJVO.tar.md5
    3. In the CSC box, select this file (from step 2.1) — CSC_OXAJVO.tar.md5
    4. Leave the PIT box empty.
  10. Double check everything said in step 7, 8 and 9 above.
  11. Now, hit the START button to let the process begin.
  12. When process at Odin finishes your phone will automatically reboot. You can unplug the cable now.
  13. When your phone has restarted, you are on the XXJVO running Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread). Congrats!
  14. Check your phone’s version by here: Press Options -> Settings -> Scroll down and select About Phone -> Scroll down and check your version.

[info]If you experience any problem in installing the ROM with the steps given above, try flashing the ROM again, but with 512 PIT file this time. Download the Pit file from here. Extract the downloaded file to get the Pit File. Then, select the Pit file in Odin’s Pit box this time (step 9.4 above) and keep the ‘Re-Partition’ box (in step 8 above) checked too. • Kapil says:

If you had installed JVK with bootloaders, then flash JVO’s without bootloaders version, since you already have the android 2.3 bootloaders. Otherwise — and in case of any doubts — flash the with_bottloaders version of JVO.

How do I install voodoo lag fix on Gingerbread? When I am busy on my SGS, often I find it lags… Is there a way to install voodoo lag fix, and what files do I need. I cant find much help regarding this

  6. Anonymous says:

Nice Guide. I successfully installed JVO on my SGS with no problems. Just had to reinstall some apps to have them working properly on 2.3.3 but that’s OK.

My only real ‘concern’ is that I noticed lower results on Benchmark tests (Quadrant Standard Edition) compared to 2.2.1 results I got last time.

Anyone facing the same ‘problem’? Just curious.

    Thanks!

    • Kapil says:

Hey, benchmark scores are good for fun only. You can’t pledge too much faith on them, they can even be tweaked.

But tweaking apart, take the case of HTC phones with Qualcomm’s processors which churn out the Linpack scores of over 30-35 quite easily while the better processor in Galaxy S (the Hummingbird unit) is able to turn up only 13-14 in linpack while the real-world speed on both the phone is very similar.

So, the benchmark scores, whether of Quadrant or linpack or any other, it doesn’t matter much. That’s it.

If you want to upgrade to Gingerbread / Android 2.3 without losing your data (which will occur if you use Odin), you can also find a way to do it with Samsung Kies 2 here : Update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Kies

    Hope it will be useful.

  18. Garbidz says:

Got it done. Something wrong with the external memory card, it just keeps scanning and scanning it. Without the card, fast and nimble. Maybe it is the card?

Come on guys… Gingerbread 2.3.4 (XXJVP) is now available from samfirmware (and other places also) and seems to have cured the infamous ‘battery drain’ problem.

I am sure that your ‘regular readers’ would appreciate some guidance on this one!

Hi, I tried upgrading using kies but could not get it to upgrade and so finally tried it as mentioned above. ODIN also came up with the message PASS. However, now my galaxy S wont start up. It keeps on showing the Galaxy S booting up screen and then after a while again the S gets formed from he flying pieces and this keeps on repeating.
I am able to goto the download screen. Please suggest what to do.

    • Kapil says:

Try the xxjvq Android 2.3.4 Firmware, it’s the best one right now and should
      install smoothly.

Go to this site’s homepage, you’ll find it there. Download and install. It
      should work fine.

  25. Kmasters says:

Put this on my samsung galaxy S which is believe to be I9000 vibrant and it works fine.
