The methods and procedures discussed here are considered risky and you should not attempt anything if you don’t know completely what it is. Do this only if you’re capable of getting your phone back right on your own. If any damage occurs to you or your device, we won’t be held liable. You only will be responsible — you’ve been warned. Okay!
This guide is applicable only for Samsung Galaxy S international version (i9000). If yours is Vibrant/Captivate/Fascinate/Epic 4G or any other Galaxy S variant, then this ROM — and Guide — is not for you, and that’s for definite.
Like all the previously leaked ROMs, this also came in two versions: one with_bootloaders and the other without_bootloaders. Flashing with_bootloaders version is considered riskier than without_bootloaders. But you have to flash with_bootloaders because this is required by Android 2.3, unless you’ve already done that while installing earlier leaked ROMs — XWJV1, XXJVK, XWJVB. If you haven’t installed JV1, JVK, JVB with bootloaders before, then you have to install XWJVH with_bootloaders.
Installation Video
The video below shows an installation of the previously leaked XWJVB ROM, but the installation process is same for both the leaked ROMs, so you can refer to this video if you experience problems with flashing.
Follow these step-by-step guide to Install XWJVH Android 2.3.3 ROM on your Galaxy S:
Download XWJVH with_bootloaders version. File name — GT_I9000_XWJVH_XXJVO_NEEJV3_Sbl.exe. Download Link. [If you already have Android 2.3 bootloaders, download XWJVH without_bootloaders version. File name -- GT_I9000_XWJVH_XXJVO_NEEJV3.exe. Download Link[Link updated. Again!]. Apply the procedures below accordingly.]
Double click ‘GT_I9000_XWJVH_XXJVO_NEEJV3_Sbl.exe’ and select Extract to let the file extract its contents in the folder “GT_I9000_XWJVH_XXJVO_NEEJV3_Sbl” — you’ll get 3 files in this folder:
CSC_NEE_JV3.tar.md5
PDA_XWJVH_Sbl.tar.md5
PHONE_XXJVO.tar.md5
Download Odin3 v1.7.zip from here — Mediafire Link. Extract the zip file to get Odin3 v1.7.exe.
Disconnect your phone if it’s connected to PC.
Switch Off your phone. Wait for vibration to confirm complete switch off.
Now, put it in Download Mode — press and hold these keys together: “Volume_DOWN + Home + Power”.
Open Odin (from step 3). Connect your phone to PC now. You should get the message “Added! !” under the Odin’s message box.
In Odin, place these files (check out the screenshot given at the top for help):
In the PDA box, select this file (from step 2.2) — PDA_XWJVH_Sbl.tar.md5
In the Phone box, select this file (from step 2.3) — PHONE_XXJVO.tar.md5
In the CSC box, select this file (from step 2.1) — CSC_NEE_JV3.tar.md5
Leave the PIT box empty.
Double check everything said in step 7, 8 and 9 above.
Now, hit the START button to let the process begin.
When process at Odin finishes your phone will automatically reboot. You can unplug the cable now.
When your phone has restarted, you are on the XWJVH running Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread). Congrats!
Check your phone’s version by here: Press Options -> Settings -> Scroll down and select About Phone -> Scroll down and check your version.
If you experience any problem in installing the ROM with the steps given above, try flashing the ROM again, but with 512 PIT file this time. Download the Pit file from here. Extract the downloaded file to get the Pit File. Then, select the Pit file in Odin’s Pit box this time (step 9.4 above) and keep the ‘Re-Partition’ box (in step 8 above) checked too. All other things same as in steps given above.
Let us know in comments below how XWJVH Android 2.3.3 ROM works on your Galaxy S (i9000).

Hi! I recently tried flashing CM9 on my Galaxy S, but it seems to be stuck in the CWM( (like, when i reboot it .. it always reboots into CWM and i tried it a million times and whatever ROM i install it always goes into CWM) .. So can i go back to the stock like it is explained here?

Hey I have a galaxy s. I got it from United Kingdom. I rooted it and it went ok. The version that I had was XWJVB on O2 carrier. Then tried to flash it. Didn’t work. so i the phone loads up to the point where it shows the S sign and then just runs that animation. What do I do?
Mchartosias6
Correction the version that I had was XWJVH
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/ Kapil
Try the xxjvu rom. Search for it here to get download link and guide.
tryied this but same thing. it loads up to the S animation and keeps doing that.
Mchartosias6
By the way I had made a Backup once I rooted it using ClockWorkMod on my SD. It was working fine at the moment. I try to recover on that but the same result. Thank you for the fast reply
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/ Kapil
Give your phone some 20 mins to boot on. Don’t stop the booting process too quick.
Mchartosias6
I gave it a try. left it for half an hour. The rom that I tried to flash at the beginning was ICS Dark night. Sorry for asking this but I am kind of new at flashing. Does it matter that it was ICS 4?
i have downloaded this gingerbreath and rooted it on telephone and now i have a question:i am unable to go to internet whit my phone wireless works perfect but data network doesent work when it active.
what to do? :S
and thanks for this :D

Make sure you have the APN settings as required for your carrier. For help,
call your carrier’s help center and get the APN settings from them.
You need APN settings compatible with your carrier to be able to use
GPRS/3G/etc. New ROMs do not have these settings for carriers world over
since they were launched for specific area, which is why you need to get
them yourself. You can use a app fro m market to backup your APN settings
and restore upon flashing new ROMs.
Hope it helps!

Currently I am on Darky’s ROM..How to Install 2.3.3 JVH ROM directly ? I need to flash stock kernel and This ROM right ? Do you have a procedure for this ?
http://www.theandroidsoul.com Shivam
First disable lagfix, in case if you dont know how to do that than search
our website for “how to disable lagfix”
After disabling lagfix follow the guide above and install with_bootloaders
version of JVH. That’s it — you dont have to do anything else :)

I upgrade from JVK, flashing the files without bootloader and upon reboots now it shows I need to confirm password. Now I am stuck at this page. Is it mean my bootloader is locked? How can I unlocked it?
Steve
Mine was an Optus unlocked phone and now after flashing this I also have the same prompt to confirm password???!!! HELP????

Hi Kapil,
I can’t seem to reproduce the problem using the same jars and method you as I did the first time it occurred. Really strange. Thanks anyway for the guide :)

Steve.

This seems to work. I removed my external sd card and then entered the password in wrong 3 times. It warned me that a fourth incorrect password would wipe the sd card. My internal sd card was not wiped YAY! I just put the external sd card back in and I was ready to roll.
Nice find! Thanx for sharing with us. I’ll update the post above with this.

Hey guys!
I am having a weird problem since flashing JVH a few days ago, I wanted to flash a custom rom, via cwm, but whatever zip i choose, installation is aborted with the following message:
Cannot install ANY zip from cwm. I have reflashed several times, tried different roms to flash etc, but haven’t had any success, I simply cannot flash anything via CWM. What could be the problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.
http://www.theandroidsoul.com Shivam
How did you installed CWM? With cfroot??
http://www.facebook.com/people/Hámori-András/100000060540027 Hámori András
I installed stock JVH then flashed cfroot. Tried to flash custom rom zip, but it didn’t install, then I install supercurios hacked kernel for JVH, still no success. I am now on fuguroot kernel, but problem is still there…

This looks great… are there any preliminary steps needed beforehand on a brand new unlocked Galaxy S (from Vodafone UK) currently running 2.2.1?
Thanks.
http://www.theandroidsoul.com Shivam
Your phone is good to flash this ROM, but as you’re coming from Android 2.2
– make sure that you flash the with_bootloaders version of the ROM.
Good luck :)
Montala
Thanks for your reply… presumably I will have to ‘root’ it first though… or will I?
http://www.theandroidsoul.com Shivam
Buddy you can flash this ROM without rooting your phone. It does not require
root.
Tojjer
What is best to root this Rom please?
Can you give a guide?
Thanks
