How to Install Deodexed Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM XWJVH on Galaxy S i9000

For installing custom themes and other personalization stuff on your Galaxy S android phone, you need a deodexed ROM installed. For the Galaxy S, the latest Samsung ROM is XWJVH, which is based on Android 2.3.3. It’s fast and stable, so if you’ve a Galaxy S and don’t wanna wait for Samsung to send the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update via Kies in your zone, which often takes long time, then you can install the XWJVH ROM using this step-by-step guide — this will install stock XWJVH ROM as it comes from Samsung, meaning it’s not rooted nor deodexed.

Warning: Warranty may be void of your device if you follow the procedures given on this page. You only are responsible for your device. We wont be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

Back to deodexed ROM, here’s how you can get one:

  1. You need to have Samsung’s Android 2.3 ROM with gingerbread bootloaders. Existing Android 2.3 ROMs are XXJV1, XWJVK, XWHVB and XWJVH. Also, you need to have clockwork recovery which you get if you’ve applied the CF-Root. If you have a with_bootloaders Android 2.3 Samsung ROM with ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery, jump to step 5 below. Otherwise, Install the latest Android 2.3 ROM, JVH, with bootloaders and then root it using CF-Root as given in steps 2, 3 and 4.
  2. Install Samsung’s stock XWJVH ROM, if aren’t running one. Again, use this step-by-step guide to install it.
  3. Next thing you need to do is Root your Galaxy S which is now running XWJVH. Use the instructions posted here to root XWJVH.
  4. You need to have ClockworkMod recovery too. If you root using the guide in step 2 above, you’ve already gotten that. So, just skip this step — this was just for Info.
  5. Now, you need to install deodexed JVH. Here’s how to install it:
    1. Download the file from here: XWJVH_NEE_Deodexed_Zipaligned.exe. Download Link. (Register and Sign In then at multiupload.com to get the direct resumable link.)
    2. Run the file by double clicking and then extract its contents. You’ll get this file: XWJVH_NEE_Deodexed_Zipaligned_signed.zip.
    3. Now, transfer this .zip file to your phone’s sd card on the very root of it.
    4. Flash this file using ClockworkMod recovery. If you need help, check out the full “How To Flash .zip files using ClockworkMod recovery”.
  6. So, now you’ve the deodexed ROM but you’ve lost ClockworkMod recovery. Root is still there, by the way.
  7. To get ClockworkMod recovery (CWM) back, apply the CF-Root given here (it’s the same link as in step 2 above). After this, you’ll have CWM back.
  8. That’s it, you can now install your favorite themes and hacks as you wish. You can keep an eye on this page for all new stuff — themes and other tips/tricks — we keep posting.

Thanks to Ramad at XDA for getting us deodexed version of Samsung stock ROMs.

  4. Yes, I am slightly confused here also, as I can’t really see the advantages of this ‘deodexed’ ROM over the standard XWJVH ROM which has bee ‘rooted’?

What extra benefits will it actually give me?

    1. Themes, mods and other such stuffs.

    2. Oh my I didn’t know that 🙂 What themes can we get and where?

  10.  Okay, installed it, works  same as JVK, at least to me. Do we get to have running Lagfix for this one?

    1. There is really no need for lagfix, dear. Do you see the need for it — I’ve
been using JVH right from when it was released and really don’t feel the
need. Plus, battery life alis improved too, so is the boot time.

If you insist, I can try finding a lagfix, but from what I remember only
voodoo lagfix is available, and that too in unfinished form.

    3. As a matter of fact I do. First I want Quadrant to hit the results that this device deserves. And second, I like the fact that my apps can run smoothly, which Pulse for instance, doesn’t. Maybe it’s minor fault for many people, but I want smoothest Android possible.

  16. Hello,
I’m currently using JVK non-bootloaders. If there is any chance of having a non-bootloader version of JVH that would be awesome. Also, how do I install ClockworkMod?I have my oringial Recovery mode disabled due to changing firmwares, does Clockworkmod automatically enable it’s own Recovery AND Download mode?I want to use the non-bootloader version of Deoxded of JVH so that I don’t want my phone to be bricked easily. This might be asking alot, sorry about that. Just want to make sure I’m on the right track 🙂 Thanks.
