How to Change App Permissions on Android M

There are a lot of things to like in the Android M preview release but we found the App Permissions feature to be the best of all and something that makes us fall in love with Android all over again. The new feature let’s you take control over the permissions an app is allowed to have on your device.

Suppose you download and install a Flashlight app, and it asks for permission to view contacts on your device. You know that is shady, but you had no control to block it. But you won’t helpless anymore with Android M, you can now turn off certain permissions of an app which you feel like doesn’t belong to it easily through the App info page. Let us show you how:

Instructions:

  1. Open Settings on your device » select Apps.
  2. You’ll see a list of all the apps installed on your device, select the App for which you want to change permissions for.
  3. On the App info page, select Permissions.
  4. You’ll see a lit of permissions allowed to the app along with toggles on the right-side to Turn On/Off each permission.
  5. When turning off a permission you may get a prompt saying “Denying permission may cause it to no longer function as intended”, ignore it and select Deny.

That’s all. Enjoy!
