Next Version of Andorid Ice Cream Sandwich

If you’re anything like us, then you too are puzzled at what direction android’s phone specific version is gonna take. The tablet version, Honeycomb, has been coded by Google as Android 3.0 while we’ve already seen the phone version reach android 2.3 with the Nexus S. So, the confusion is obvious – if Android 3.0 and onwards is tied to tablets, doesn’t that make the phone’s version limited to just android 2.9, if the same growth path is followed?

Well, no more. Since Google’s soon-to-be-replaced CEO Eric Schmidt has clarified that the next version of android will indeed “combine” the Honeycomb and the Gingerbread. Sure we’re more than happy to hear this, since maintaining track of two versions of android could’ve been anything not less than horrible.

“We have OS called Gingerbread for phones, we have an OS being previewed now for tablets called Honeycomb. You can imagine the follow up will start with an I, be named after dessert, and will combine these two.”

What’s more, Schmidt even left us a hint about the its name, mentioning it would begin with ‘I’ (not that i, you know what I mean! – and you should be shamed of yourself to think of iAndroid) and of course, named after dessert. Yep! we’ve been hearing about the “Ice Cream” / “Ice Cream Sandwich” as the possible names, but now, they do fall in line with some official words. Nice going, Google! We’re just wondering if something very special happened this valentine day between the two version of android – making way to their marriage in the next version. We like it, and are totally androidified too!
