Google Watch under plans at Mountain View?

A few years ago, the “smart” device world was limited to  a few Nokia S60 devices, the Sony Ericsson P series, and Windows Mobile devices (Blackberries were just considered corporate email devices back then). Fast forward to the current day, and our world has gotten a lot “smart”er. The advent of Google’s Android OS, has laid the path for development of “smart” devices other than phones too. Smart TVs, Media Hubs, Tablets and the  likes.

We came across this interesting bit today, which indicates that a trademark filed last year on behalf of Google has just been approved by the US Trademark and Patents Office. Limited Details currently available, indicate a camera-equipped smartwatch, with a see-through flip-cover, which can display augmented reality data.

While this may not necessarily be a breakthrough device, with manufacturers like Sony & Motorola already having released smart watches running custom Android OS versions, anything which carries the Nexus branding would definitely be worth taking a look at.

With Google Glass hogging a lot of attention lately, this may or may not see the light of day, but then, Google has always been known to surprise us. And for what’s it’s worth, Google had revealed in its last I/O in May ’12 that Google Glass is under plans for two and half years now, so that does make the Google watch project, of which patent was filed last year only, relatively new, and worth of pursuing by the company despite the mind-boggling Glass project.

If a Nexus watch by Google does hit the mainstream market, would you be keen on sporting one of these  on your wrist. Personally, I think that’d be cool — a Nexus watch on your wrist, a Nexus phone in your pocket, and a Nexus tablet in your hands! Let us know your thoughts.
