Google undertakes drive to make the play store family friendly, introduces parental controls and more

Google introduced multiple new things at I/O keynote such as the brand new Android M, Android Pay etc. Along with all these, the company also announced its intention to make the Play Store more family-friendly. For that purpose, the software giant has decided to add an age and interest filter that will allow users to search and browse content that is appropriate and relevant and thus contribute towards improving the overall experience.

Along with the said filters, there is a brand new Family button in Apps, Games and Movies/ TV that will allow you to access only the family friendly content in each. The Books section similarly has a Children’s Books button. What’s more, the company has also added a family homepage that will have charts, recommendations and searches connected to the family catalogue.

For the kids, Google has added a special feature that will allow them to look for and find content associated with their favorite television characters such as Spongebob and even Peppa Pig.

Parents can also keep and eye on and control what their kids are doing by using the all new features that allow for controlling downloads, purchases or streaming of mature content. There are also the family star badges, which can tell about the specific age range of any app, movie or book.

The new family friendly Play Store will roll out to devices across the world within the coming week or two.
