Google Nexus Prime is the Next Nexus Phone with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Super AMOLED HD Display and TI’s OMAP 4460 Dual-Core Processor

Want to hear a rumor even juicer than the 1.4 GHz Galaxy S 2? This is for you, then — the next Nexus device is said to be called Nexus Prime, featuring Super AMOLED HD display with a res of 1280 x 720 (that’s what 720p stands for, FYI), TI’s dual-core OMAP 4460 processor and the unfolding the next chapter in Android OS’ life — the Android 4.0 version, called Ice Cream Sandwich. There is some sort of simultaneous launch plan involved, too — which to me is the best part of this rumor. Check out the rest of the post to know more.

You may have already figured out that it will be coming right outta Samsung’s workshops, thanks to the presence of Super AMOLED display, in it HD shade for the first time. Of course, it will be better than the current best Super AMOLED Plus display one finds in Galaxy S 2.

Further, there is now more weight to the fact that it will be the first device with next great version of Android OS, v4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich — single OS for both phones and tablets. Surely, it’s not surprising that it would be launched together with next Nexus phone, since Google has a good habit of launching its newer versions of Android OS with a new Nexus phone. It’s said that like Andorid 3.0 honeycomb, the need for the 4 physical buttons will be removed from the phones, too, in the Ice Cream Sandwich. Yup, this is the first — and only, for now — feature of the Ice Cream Sandwich we know of right now, apart from the fact that it will support both phones and tablets, even 7-inch tablets, y’know.

Ah, about the mighty processor that will power the Nexus Prime — it’s the dual-core OMAP 4460 processor manufactured by Texas Instruments. I think it would be clocking in at 1.5 Hz dual-core speeds, which is awesome, and have already been claimed by TI as ridiculously 50% faster than NVidia’s Tegra 2 processor that one found in almost all the android tablets these days. What is currently the world’s best processor, to me at least, is Samsung’s own Exynos dual-core processor which is powering the Galaxy S 2. Looks like TI has done remarkable work with its dual-core OMAP chips because topping Samsung’s Exynos processor for a phone which a Nexus device by Samsung only, is no child’s play by any means since the Exynos brand has already proved itself with the super speeds at which Galaxy S 2 flies without lagging, no matter how hard you try to cause some.

Okay, this is even more interesting.

But what’s even more interesting is the idea of simultaneous launch of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phones all across the country — made by different manufacturers and launched with different carriers. What it could be, really? And even is it possible?

What it looks like to me, is that Nexus Prime would be a definite Google Experience phone launch with stock Android 4.0 ice Cream Sandwich with no manufacturer customization over Android whatsoever, and other manufacturers shipping their Android 4.0 device too around the same time as Nexus prime launches. So, the retail stores all over are duly updated with Android 4.0 android phones (and tablets, maybe!) as soon as the Ice Cream Sandwich launches.

BUT, it’s not clear whether we’re talking about about simultaneous launch in just one country (U.S, presumably), or a couple of countries (U.S. and U.K. — that the number of countries Nexus S launched with initially) or this would be the case over world over, meaning all major countries filling in their stores with Android 4.0 phones from different manufacturers with different carriers (and unlocked, too) around same time Nexus prime launches.

The simultaneous launch will mean one more thing — the manufacturers and carriers will get their hands on Android 4.0 builds sooner than ever, helping them to update their existing great devices (phones and tablets) even faster — you know if they really want to update to.

All of this surely is very interesting, enough to fill your minds with opinions and guesses and more — fill them out in the comments below. And is it the best plan to hit iPhone in the face, since Apple too is trying its own bits by delaying the next iPhone’s launch from typical July to rumored September release this year? Come on, say what you got!
