Google ASUS Nexus 7 Tablet to come with Jelly Bean Android 4.1

Looks like Jelly Bean — the next Android version — might not be a major update like Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 was, as according to a Rightware Basemark ES 2.0 Taiji benchmark that appeared online, Jelly Bean might be Android 4.1, indicating a not-so-major upgrade as believed earlier.

The Rightware benchmark reports that the device is running the software version JRN51B, with the J indicating that it is running on Jelly Bean, and that this is the first device ever to be running on Android 4.1. As seen in the image above, the Nexus 7 will be having a screen with a 768×1280 resolution and will feature the quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor.

According to an Android and Me source who has seen the Nexus tablet, Jelly Bean will indeed be Android 4.1 instead of 5.0 as people were expecting earlier. It will also be featuring a UI quite similar to the Amazon Kindle Fire, with multiple home screens that are dedicated to different types of content (music, movies, books, etc).

Of course, everything will be clear at this year’s Google I/O conference where Google is expected to show off their Nexus tablet, just a month away. Till then, all we mere mortals can do is wait.
