Galaxy S5 Marshmallow Root [Discussed]

While samsung is busy readying the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge devices around the world, user Sirocco.ukr.lviv over at xda has leaked system dump of Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update.

The leaked system dump of S5 Marshmallow update runs on Android 6.0.1 with build number G900FXXU1CPB2. The kernel version on this dump is 3.4.0-7182592, and has the security patch level date of 1st Feb, 2016.

So, by all means, this dump is from a fresh build of Marshmallow for the S5. And that might suggest Marshmallow beta rollout for the S5 to begin soon, just like Samsung did for the S6 and S6 Edge devices.

Anyway, for those concerned about root access on the Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update, know that nothing much will change. You’ll still be using either the systemless root by Chainfire or a custom kernel with SELinux set to permissive to root S5 Marshmallow update.

Chainfire’s recently released systemless root has been reportedly working fine for the S6 and S6 Edge Marshmallow beta releases, so we’re hopeful that it’d work for rooting S5 6.0.1 Marshmallow update as well.

There’s no Odin/TWRP flashable Marshmallow firmware yet for the Galaxy S5, so we couldn’t tell you for sure about the root access. But like we said before, it won’t be a trouble (not for the bootloader unlocked variants, at-least).

As for the AT&T S5 and Verizon S5 Marshmallow update, we don’t think root will be possible on these variants, until of course miracles like Towelroot happen again. Phew!

We’ll update this post once we know the perfectly working root for Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update. Stay tuned..

Happy Androiding!

  1. Bull. This doesn’t work on the S5 because for one thing you can’t boot the recovery menu any more. The Marshmallow update disabled it.
