Galaxy Note 9 will feature a 8nm or 7nm Exynos chip, Galaxy S9 will come with a 10nm Exynos 9810 processor

A new report coming in straight from China claims that next year’s Galaxy S9 and Note 9 may not feature the same chipsets which has been the case so far with its predecessors.

According to Samsung’s internal messages, the Samsung Galaxy S9 will be powered by an Exynos 9810 chipset built on a 10nm node while the Galaxy Note 9 could house an Exynos 9810 (names may change in the future) chipset built on 8nm or 7nm process node.

This will obviously make the Galaxy Note 9 a slightly better handset relatively since the change in build process will result in reduced power consumption and will also help in boosting the frequency.

This theory makes little sense given the fact that Samsung anticipated the 10nm chipsets to last a little longer in the flagship market and invested good money.

Sadly for the company, though, TSMC is currently pushing the 7nm-based chipsets more over the ones built on the 10nm node which, in fact, also urged Qualcomm ditch Samsung for its next-gen processors.

As a result, Samsung could also ditch Qualcomm in favor of the 10nm-based Exynos 9810 chip for the Galaxy S9. This way, Samsung could still keep the 10nm-based chipsets in (flagship) business and mass produce either 7nm or 8nm-based chips meanwhile.
