Samsung just unveiled its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones in March and released them to the world on April 21st, but it’s a well-known fact that Samsung isn’t done with its high-end “Galaxies” for the year. The Korean giant always plans a Galaxy Note successor unveiling for the early Fall season, and the rumors about the next Galaxy say that Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 8 in late August this year. This conflicts with a recent rumor that said that Samsung would release the Note 8 earlier than late August.
The Galaxy Note 7 was announced in early August (August 2nd of last year) and made its way into retail stores around mid to late August, but this year’s announcement will set things back some. Instead of an August launch, Samsung will likely launch its smartphone in September after announcing it in the eighth month (Galaxy Note 8 in the “eighth” month seems intentional, don’t you think?).
Codenamed “Baikal” after the world’s deepest lake, the Galaxy Note 8 bearing model number SM-N950 is expected to feature a 6.3 or 6.4-inch Infinity Super AMOLED display (“8” as a number is the “infinity” symbol rotated to the left or right; hence the display name) with QHD+ screen resolution.
Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 SoC will return here (though the Snapdragon 836 could be in the works), alongside 6GB of RAM, 64GB/128GB of storage with a 256GB-capable microSD card slot for storage expansion, and the same 8MP front camera with the same 12MP Dual Pixel PDAF camera on the rear plus an additional camera. The dual rear camera setup of the upcoming Galaxy C10 is headed to the Galaxy Note 8, as multiple reliable sources attest to the dual rear camera presence on the next Galaxy Note. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, renown for his Apple product predictions, has said that Samsung’s dual-camera setup will feature a 12MP+13MP layout, dual 6P lenses, and dual OIS.
Other rumors state that the Galaxy Note 8 could feature a 3,600mAh battery along with the expected IP68, fast charging, and fast wireless charging capabilities.
