Galaxy Grand with 5-inch WVGA display announced by Samsung

Samsung has decided to take large displays like the Galaxy Note 2’s down to the midrange segment, as the company has announced the Galaxy Grand, a smartphone with a 5-inch display, though with a lowly WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) resolution.

The Galaxy Grand will be powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM, with other specs including an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video recording, 2 megapixel front-facing camera, 8GB internal storage and microSD slot (up to 64GB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, HSPA+, A-GPS with Glonass support, and a 2100 mAh battery. The device will be available in both single SIM and dual SIM variants, with model numbers I9080 and I9082.

On the software front, the Galaxy Grand will run Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s TouchWiz skin on top, along with features such as multi-window multitasking, S Voice, Direct Call, AllShare Play, Popup Play and more, which will ensure an experience similar to the high-end Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3.

Samsung hasn’t announced anything related to the availability dates or the pricing, though the latter would have to hit the sweet spot for the Galaxy Grand to make an impression on folks. While the display resolution might not be cutting edge anymore and will cause all manner of pixels to be visible, it will still be a great option for those looking for a big screen device that doesn’t break the bank, specially when you have features like multi-window multitasking.

Would you buy a Galaxy Grand if the price was right?
