EZBase ROM v3.0 [XWJVB]. Full Installation Guide [w/ Video]

The EZBase is your one stop solution to get on a fully deodexed pre-rooted Android 2.3.3 Galaxy S ROM from any custom/stock ROM. No matter what you’re running into, as long as you can go to download mode on your Galaxy S i9000, you can use this ROM to get on a stable Android 2.3.3 ROM. Below are few uses of this ROM:

  • You can flash this ROM over any Android 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3 ROM on your Galaxy S. Means this is your safest way to update your phone to Android 2.3.3.
  • You can use this ROM to rescue from boot loops.
  • You can flash this ROM to get your phone working again if/when some custom ROM messes up your phone.

The EZRom uses a different Odin than the one we use generally. The new Odin is called EZOdin and it’s different looks-wise. The EZBase ROM will install the following stuff to your phone:

  1. Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) – JVB
  2. Pre-rooted
  3. Apps — SuperUser, Titanium Backup, ROM manager, etc.
Warning: Warranty may be void of your device if you follow the procedures given on this page. You only are responsible for your device. We wont be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components. [info]This guide is applicable only for Samsung Galaxy S international version (i9000). If yours is Vibrant/Captivate/Fascinate/Epic 4G or any other Galaxy S variant, then this ROM — and Guide — is not for you, and that’s for definite.[/info]

EZBase ROM instructions:

Although there is a very informative guide already available (Get the .PDF file here) from the developer himself, but here’s my instructions set:

  1. Download required files:
    1. EZbase-CSC-XXJV1.tar.md5 – MD5 55bc5794a61c22314d4f5c6a45b88adf
    2. EZbase-PDA-XWJVB.tar.md5 – MD5 15bb47fcd18585e5d521431db3557fa2
    3. EZbase-PHONE-XXJVK.tar.md5 – MD5 9e2a19f4cbb70a06cdea8f6036a17255
    4. EZOdin
    5. EZbase.pit
    6. 64bit Samsung USB Drivers (No need for Kies)
    7. 32bit Samsung USB Drivers (No need for Kies)
  2. Don’t extract any of the file. Don’t play with them in any way.
  3. If you don’t have drivers installed or just in case wan t to re-install them for safety, uninstall them first and reboot your PC. The, install the drivers from step 1.6 or 1.7 above as applicable to your version of windows.
  4. Switch Off your Galaxy S. Wait for vibration to confirm complete Switch Off.
  5. Put your phone into ‘Download Mode‘ using the three button combo — “Volume DOWN +Home key + Power Button”. Don’t connect it to computer.
  6. Open EZOdin. [Looks cute than Odin3)
  7. Connect your phone to PC now. You should get the “Added” message in the message box.
  8. Check the Re-partition button first of all.
  9. Keep the Auto Reboot and Reset Time buttons checked too.
  10. Keep these boxes UNCHECKED — EFS Clear and Bootloader Update
  11. Hit the PIT tab and select EZBase.pit file at step 1.5 above.
  12. Hit PDA tab and select file at step 1.2 above — EZbase-PDA-XWJVB.tar.md5
  13. Hit Phone tab and select file at step 1.1 above — EZbase-PHONE-XXJVK.tar.md5
  14. Hit the CSC tab and select the file at step 1.3 above — EZbase-CSC-XXJV1.tar.md5
  15. Double check everything above. The EZOdin window should look like the screenshot at the top.
  16. Hit Start button. This will flash the EZRom on your Galaxy S. Phone will boot up automatically.
  17. Check out your phone’s version: Go to — Settings – About Phone.

That’s it.

If you experience any problem after flashing this ROM, then do the following:

  1. Switch off your phone and wait until it vibrates.
  2. Go to Recovery mode by pressing together the following three buttons: “Volume UP + Home Key + Power Button”. Release the buttons immediately after Galaxy S logo appears.
  3. Use Volume UP & Volume DOWN to scroll through options in the recovery, and Power button to select.
  4. Scroll to “wipe data/factory reset” and select it, and choose “Yes — delete all user data
  5. Then select “reboot  system now”. Enjoy!

Included Apps

EZBase ROM is a ripped down version of Samsung’s original ROM. So it doesn’t include apps like Gmail, Youtube, Facebook, etc. You’ll be required to download these apps manually from the Android Market. I’m giving the Market Links below:

  1. Gmail — Market link
  2. Youtube — Market link
  3. Facebook — Market link
  4. Maps — Market link
  5. If I’m missing any app, then please search for it in the Market.

This ROM also excludes all the stock Samsung apps. So again you’ll be required to install them manually as normal apk file using a file manager. Below is a link to download all the stock Samsung apps.

If you like the ROM, and feel like donating the developer for his hard work, you can use the button below 🙂

I have 2.2 DDJP6 running on my Galaxy S I9000 in India, can I flash it to 2.3.3 as per procedure given here?

    1. Yes, you can. In case you don’t like the pre-installed zeam launcher, get

  9. Thanks I was able to flash my SGS I9000 to 2.3.3 as per instructions given above, and Man it was fast, under 10minutes 🙂 BUT, as highlighted I lost all my Market as well as Samsungs out-of-box apps (including calculator, Music, Video Player, Calendar etc etc.) phew I will now search for all from Markt. The speed is however fantastic. Thanks for the elaborate guide.

  12. Hi,
I followed your instructions accordingly but all I get is
    ” Added!!
    Enter CS for MD5..
Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
    Please wait..
    EZbase-PDA-XWJVB.tar.md5 is valid.
    EZbase-PHONE-XXJVK.tar.md5 is valid.
    MD5 hash value is invalid
    EZbase-CSC-XXJV1.tar_3.md5 is invalid.
    End…

I downloaded the csc files for 5 times thinking it must be somehow corrupted during download. Any advice? Im running on eclair and voodoo lagfix installed. 😛

    1. Hi

Look it’s always better to disable voodoo lagfix before you flash any other ROM. If you want to know how to disable lagfixes, here’s a guide: https://nerdschalk.com/how-to-disable-lagfix-on-galaxy-s-i9000-instructions/

But your problem here is different. Please refer to my comment ‘in reply to abc’ above.

  15. I’m using it for few days and i’m pretty exciting, working very well and fast. No bugs yet found. I think it’s great job. Worth trying it 🙂

    1. Glad you like it.

  16. I dl the csc file for many times with diff. browsers but always get the wrong md5~ wt’s wrong with the file. seems someone down there also has this problem.

Well that MD5 sum (given by the developer) for CSC file didn’t match for me either. I’d this figure: d81e01f0e3422cacdbd030217828de22

But the file worked for me, so you might also wanna try and see if it works for you.

And BTW I downloaded the file using “Internet Download Manager” [IDM]. Here’s the link to software’s page — http://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/download.html

  23.  do you need a lag fix after this is done?

    1.  i mean ive been looking into this currently have oclf and its crap, im guna do this tonight im just wondering if you still need/want the lag fix? thanks for the help

      1. Hey, you really don’t need any lagfix of any sort — one click or not. Those
lagfixes were cool when you had Android 2.1 but not now, Samsung has already
done a good job. So, no need to go for lagfix.
