Evernote – Note Taking Was Never This Good

Evernote is a comprehensive note taking application, that aims to make sure you never forget an appointment, or that important task that you plan on performing. It lets you take photos, make to-do lists, search for text inside images (you heard it right), create audio notes, etc, and puts it on the web so you can access it from anywhere. Oh, and did we mention that it works on almost every platform imaginable? Android, iOS, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, desktops including Windows and Mac, you can access your notes and info from all of them.

You can organize notes in the form of Notebooks and also tag notes with your location using GPS. Another very useful feature is Optical character recognition (OCR), which lets you capture text from printed text, included text from within images. This comes quite handy when you want to capture info in a hurry, like from a business card.

You start by creating a free account with Evernote, which gives you 60 MB of storage space per month. You can buy a premium account for $5/month or $45/year and get it upgraded to 1000 MB/month. Account creation is required the first time you use the application, but you do not need to use the online portion for subsequent uses. However, photos and voice notes need to be downloaded from the cloud every time you want them.

Here are some features of the app:

  • Sync all of your notes across the computers and devices you use
  • Create and edit text notes, to-dos and task lists
  • Record voice and audio notes
  • Search for text inside images
