eBay allots high-demand status for the Nexus 4; Sets stringent restrictions for sellers.

If the recently imposed purchase restrictions on the Nexus 4 in Google Play wasn’t enough indication of the extremely high demand that the newest Nexus smartphone enjoys, how about this — eBay, the largest online marketplace in the world, is now considering the Nexus 4 as a high-demand product and has already set some tight restrictions on the number of units that can be sold by sellers on eBay!

Looks like eBay has smartened up to the fact that there may be several opportunists out there who may have picked up Nexus 4 phones in bulk just after launch (and before the 2 phone restriction came in to play) and may be trying to sell them on eBay with a premium mark up on the price. And given the shortage of supply, buyers may be more than willing to pay that premium.

Well, if you’ve been disappointed each time you visited the Play Store to order a Nexus 4, and further upset upon seeing crazy prices on eBay and other online retail stores, the fact that those who were trying to cash in on the hype are going to have a hard time now, should make you feel a wee bit better.

Check out the restrictions that eBay has set for its sellers:

As you can see, authorized resellers can continue doing business as usual, and these guys would usually not try and take undue advantage anyways. And those who don’t meet minimum performance standards or have not conformed personal information won’t be allowed to list it at all. The ones in-between can list the Nexus 4 but within specified limits.

All we need eBay to do now, is to also set a restriction on how high these sellers can price the device at, and that should make life a whole lot easier for all those anxious folks out there who have worn out their F5 keys on Nexus 4 page at the Google Play Store.
