Download Verizon Moto X 2nd Gen (2014) Marshmallow update and root

Motorola recently allowed Moto X 2014 edition users to unlock bootloader of their device, after the news came that Motorola won’t be updating the carrier locked devices — like the one at Verizon — to Marshmallow (presumably because of testing and limitations imposed by carriers). So, the Verizon Moto X2 users (model no. XT1096) are still stuck with Android 5.1.1 when the rest of Moto X2s over the world are enjoying the day in Android 6.0.

No more now, well. Thanks to some porting work done, the Verizon Motor X2 users can now enjoy Motorola’s own Marshmallow update (from XT1095) on their device, and this is all possible in a matter of few minutes.

How to Install

Well, first of all, unlock the bootloader from Motorola page here. Then, go ahead and install the Moto X2 TWRP recovery — download the latest version of TWRP from here, and install it using the guide available here (works 100%).

Then, download the Marshmallow ROM from above, and transfer it to your device’s storage. Now, reboot your Moto X into recovery mode to enter TWRP recovery, and use it to install ROM. Don’t forget to do a factory reset first (use Wipe menu is recovery for that). For help with installation, see this page.

How to Root

Well, with TWRP installed, download these two files (SuperSU 2.65 and XT1095 boot) and install them using TWRP.
