Google Music App from Jelly Bean Android 4.1

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean brings along with it new versions of many Google apps, one of them being Google Music. The updated Google Music app found on Android 4.1 brings a neater and better interface, and finally adds a homescreen widget as well. And like so many other Jelly Bean apps and goodies, the Google Music app has been posted online for everyone to download and use, as long as they are running an Android 4.0 ROM on their device.

NOTE: The app doesn’t seem to be working properly for everyone, with some people reporting that it works well while some report that it keeps closing with an error. So keep in mind that it may or may not work for you. Also, this only works on Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs.

Let’s take a look at how the Google Music app can be installed on your device.

How to Install Google Music App

  1. Make sure you are using an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM.
  2. Download the Google Music APK:
    Download Link  |  Filename: Google_Play_Music_4.3.605.392829.apk
  3. Copy the downloaded Google_Play_Music_4.3.605.392829.apk file to your device.
  4. You’ll need a file manager to browse through SD Card. If you don’t have one already, use ASTRO File Manager (install for free from your current Google Play Store/Android Market app).
  5. Enable “Unknown sources” under Settings » Security on the device, so that you can install applications from SD Card.
  6. Open file manager app and browse to where you copied the APK file in Step 3.
  7. Find and tap on the file to begin installation procedure and it will be installed in less than a minute.
  8. Then, after installation is complete, simply run Google Music by clicking on the Play Music icon in your apps menu.

The latest Google Music app from Android 4.1 is now installed on your Android device. Let us know how it works!

works great on galaxy s2 stock 4.0.4

  2. Won’t work on my gs2 skyrocket running stock 4.0.4. Says there is a problem installing package because a similar app already exists with a different signature

    1. Did you clear the data from the previous version of the app before installing?

  3. Just downloaded and tested on my galaxy s3, running Android 4.0.4 firmware xxlfb, Working okay so far.

  4. I’ve installed this and it is asking for permission to access my Google Play account “to: SJ”.
    What or Who is SJ?

    1. Got that one to and decided to stop using the app. Did not grant the extra access and stopped and uninstalled the application. Hopefully it’s gone now…
Did some googling and found the SJ to be a moderate risk virus that potentially downloads more nasty stuff and also steals identities…
Hopefully installing it did no harm, but you never know. Feel like changing my passwords now…
