As if teeming Samsung devices wasn’t very tough already, Samsung recently began using QMG/ASTC file formats instead of .PNG for icons and other drawings inside an app. These formats aren’t really well known and there are no convenient libraries to decode + convert them at the moment.
But thanks to sorg over at XDA for bringing a quick workaround to decode + convert QMG/ASTC to PNG using the in-built decoder of the device itself. Pretty neat solution, until someone creates an independent QMG/ASTC decoder.
The tool is called ‘picconv’ and you can download it from this XDA thread, follow the instructions there for setting it up on your device and to know how to use it.
