You only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

GUIDE: CWM RECOVERY INSTALLATION ON SAMSUNG GALAXY S2

Before you begin with guide instructions below, make sure your android device is adequately charged — at least 50% battery of the device.

STEP 0: CHECK DEVICE MODEL NO.

To make sure your device is eligible with this, you must first confirm its model no. in ‘About device’ option under Settings. Another way to confirm model no. is by looking for it on the packaging box of your device. It must be GT-I9100!

Please know that this page is meant only for Samsung Galaxy S2. Please DO NOT try the procedures given here on other variants of the Galaxy S2. (including the S2 devices at Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile) or on any other device of Samsung or any other company. You have been Warned!

  STEP 1: BACKUP YOUR DEVICE

Back up important data and stuff before you start playing around here as there are chances you might lose your apps and app-data (app settings, game progress, etc.), and in rare case, files on the internal memory, too.

For help on Backup and Restore, check out our exclusive page on that linked right below.

  STEP 2: INSTALL LATEST DRIVER

You must have proper and working driver installed on your windows computer to be able to successfully flash CWM Recovery on your Samsung Galaxy S2.

In case you’re not sure, follow the link below for a definitive guide for installing driver for your Galaxy S2 on your computer.

  STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Example video: If you haven’t used Odin before to install a recovery file or anything else, then we suggest you first watch a video of that to get familiar with the process. The video demonstrates flashing of an older version Philz Recovery on Galaxy S3, but since the procedure is same, the video will help: Click here to watch the video

Important Note: Backup important files stored on internal SD card of your device, so that in case a situation arises requiring you to do a factory reset after flashing CWM Recovery, which might delete internal sd card too, your files will remain safe on PC.

  1. Extract/Unzip the Odin zip file, Latest Odin_ v3.09.zip on your computer (using 7-zip free software, preferably) to get the following files:
    • Odin3 v3.09.exe
    • Odin3.ini
  2. Download the CWM 6.0.2.9 file, GT-I9100_JB_ClockworkMod-Recovery_6.0.2.9.tar, in the same folder in which you extracted Latest Odin_v3.09.zip (Just for your convenience, that is). So, now you’ll have the following files in that folder:
    • Odin3 v3.09.exe
    • Odin3.ini
    • GT-I9100_JB_ClockworkMod-Recovery_6.0.2.9.tar
  3. Disconnect the Galaxy S2 from PC if it is connected.
  4. Double-click the Odin3 v3.09.exe file to open Odin.
  5. Boot your Samsung Galaxy S2 into Download Mode:
    • Power off your device first and wait for 6-7 seconds after display is off.
    • Press and hold these 3 buttons together until you see Warning! screen: Volume Down + Power + Home.
    • Press Volume Up now to continue to Download Mode.
  6. Connect your Galaxy S2 to PC. Odin window will show an Added!! message in bottom left box. Odin’s screen would look like this:Odin 3.09 - Samsung-Galaxy-Odin-Device-Added-ScreenshotIf you don’t get the Added! message, here are some troubleshooting tips:
    • Make sure you have installed driver for Galaxy S2 as said above in ‘Before you begin..’ section.
    • If you have already installed driver, then uninstall them and reinstall back.
    • Connect using a different USB port on your PC.
    • Try a different USB cable. The original cable that came with your phone should work best, if not, try any other cable that’s new and of good quality.
    • Reboot your phone and PC and then try again.
  7. Load the recovery file (extracted in Step 1) into Odin as instructed below:
    • Click on the AP button on Odin and select the recovery.tar.md5 file (from step 1). Your Odin window should look like the screenshot below:
      samsung-s2-cwm-kitkat-compatible-odin-ap-file-select
  8. Now in the Option section of Odin, make sure that Re-Partition box is unchecked. (Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time boxes remain checked, while all other boxes remain unchecked.)
  9. Double check the above two steps. (Step 7 and Step 8)
  10. Click the Start button to begin flashing CWM Recovery on your Samsung Galaxy S2, and wait until you see a PASS! message in Odin’s top left box.
  11. When you get PASS! message, your device will restart automatically. You can then disconnect your phone from PC.Odin 3.09 - Samsung-Galaxy-Odin-PASS-screenshot

If you see FAIL message instead of the PASS in Odin’s top left box, that a problem. Try this now: Disconnect your Galaxy S2 from PC, close Odin, remove phone’s battery and put it back inside in 3-4 seconds, open Odin and then repeat from Step 3 of this guide again.

Also, If device is Stuck at setup connection or on any other process, then too, try this: disconnect your Galaxy S2 from PC, close Odin, remove phone’s battery and put it back inside in 3-4 seconds, open Odin and then repeat from Step 4 of this guide again.

NEW CWM VERSION 6.0.4.5 COMPATIBLE WITH ANDROID 4.4 KITKAT ROMS

The above guide gave you a thorough procedure of installing the CWM recovery on your Samsung Galaxy S2, here is another guide for flashing the latest CWM recovery (6.0.4.5) using the already.

  1. Boot into recovery mode. If you’re rooted, the easiest way to boot into recovery mode would be using the QuickBoot app. If not rooted, then follow the instructions below:
    • Power off your device and wait for 5-10 seconds until the device is fully switched off.
    • Press and hold  Volume Up + Home + Power buttons together and release them as soon as you see the Galaxy S2 logo.
└ In Recovery mode, use Volume buttons to navigate Up and Down between options and use Power button to select an option.
(For help, check out our Galaxy S2 Recovery Mode page).
  2. Create a Nandroid Backup from recovery. It’s optional but very important to do, so that in case something goes wrong you can restore to current status easily. For making a Nandroid Backup, go to Backup And Restore » Backup.
  3. Now Install the CWM file:
    • Select Install zip » Choose zip from sdcard (or external sdcard, you know where your files are) » browse to the location where you saved the CWM file and select it.How to Flash File in CWM Recovery
  4. Goto Advanced option and select Reboot Recovery. It restarts the recovery.
  5. Now you have the recovery that is compatible with the Android 4.4 KitKat roms.

  23. So… basically I had the same problem Pishang and others had after installing CWM 6.0.2.9. The good news is you can access Recovery Mode so my advice is just continue the tutorial and install CWM 6.0.4.5.

After that, since your phone is probably not working, you have to wipe everything and flash a new ROM. I installed NeatROM, which looks cool (I haven’t explored it yet).

This is a good tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM0ZnCV59aY

    Hope this helps!
