AT&T LG G3 gets new update to D85021r but still not Android 5.1

Android 5.1 wait for AT&T LG G3 continue even though the carrier launched a new update for the device today. The update would take the software version of the device to D85021r, but it will still be running Android 5.0.1 (yes, not even 5.0.2 if you insist!).

The update brings in device security improvements and is thus appropriately sized only 22.3 MB, from its base version D85021q. yes, it’s Stagefright fixer update in case you were wondering. Hence it’s pretty much a must-do update. Nothing else belonged to changelog AT&T pushed out to us.

It’s cruel to know that a spec-monster device of the last year LG G3 was, it’s still breathing on Android 5.0.1. Android 6.0 is about to be released on Nexus devices next month, and here we are with LG and AT&T, whose G3 is yet to see a day with Android 5.1.

Anyway, if you haven’t received the D85021r update on your device yet, try to check for the update from Settings > About device > System update.

  1. Do not install this update. I installed it on 09/11 and since then i am unable to use messaging, device is always hot and battery drains within couple of hours.
I am thinking of reseting the device to prior version.

  3. how can i reset my device to 4.4 kitkat, cause my sd card isn’t working on 5.0.1?? Any help!!!

    1. You can’t go back to KitKat anymore once you update to Android 5.0. 🙁

    2. Go to XDA and follow the howto for flashing your phone back to stock kitkat. It can be done. I did it.
