First Asus ZenFone AR update is out already

The Zenfone AR from Asus is one of the highest spec’d smartphones from the OEM. And the specs are for good reason too, as the smartphone features Google’s Augmented Reality based Tango tech, hence the AR moniker.

Now, the Zenfone AR was announced back in January, and even though it’s yet to hit the market, Asus has already announced an update for the device. The update is seeding as software version 14.1600.1705.16, and includes a ton of changes and fixes.

Camera performance is seeing an increase in performance and BeautyLive would become a pre-installed app. Android Pay is also built-in with this update, but is still limited to select countries. The ZenFit app has been removed from the system, but you can download it again separately.

Before you download this update you will also need to back up your collages as this update will remove the PhotoCollage app. The same is also true for the MiniMovie app as it is also gone with this update.

The update also adds third-party apps which includes a few games and AR related apps. These are Towers For Tango, Twilight Pioneers, Marvel Future Fight and Asphalt 8. A couple of other AR apps were removed too including Archer E Bowman, Hunters Gate and Wands.

If you haven’t already received the update, you can try checking in Settings » About » Software update. As mentioned above, take a backup of all of your important data in case the installation fails. Also ensure you have sufficient charge on your Zenfone AR before installing the update.
