Archos Gamepad Price set at just $149, release date not far now

For all the die-hard gamers, the new Archos Gamepad might be a great, well-priced and sleek looking solution for your daily gaming dose while on the move.

Priced at just $149, the Archos Gamepad features a 7″ 1024 x 600 res capacitive touchscreen, with physical game controller buttons on either side of the screen- similar to a PSP. On the inside, the Archos Gamepad packs a powerful Rockchip RK 3066 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor with the quad-core Mali-400MP4 GPU, which is more than enough power to run high-end Android games without any stutter or lag. The device also has 8 GB of internal storage, as well as an expandable microSD slot supporting up to 64GB of extra memory, and has WiFi and mini-HDMI connectivity, and will launch with Android 4.1 Ice Cream Sandwich. Release date is expected to be within a month, and that seems to be well in time before Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.

Another unique, and particularly notable feature is the automatic game recognition and mapping tools patented technology by Archos, which ensure that the controls are compatible with every advanced Android game. You can also manually assign physical buttons to onscreen controls for a game, if you’re more comfortable using them. The HDMI connectivity should let you connect the Archos gamepad to a larger display, and play the game using the physical buttons on the gamepad.

For the price point of $149, this definitely looks like good value for money, and it would be great if more and more  developers start creating games specifically keeping these kind of devices in mind.

The newly released Modern Combat 4 and Real Soccer 2013 should be awesome on this device. So what do you think? Would you be getting one for yourself?
