Android things, a version of Android released by Google in December 2016 as a developer preview release has just received an update.
For the unknown, Android Things is an OS targeted towards making the development and integration of connected IoTÂ hardware devices such as speakers, security cameras, smart thermostats, etc. easier for manufacturers and developers alike. It enables any Android developer to build a smart device using Google services and have the latest security updates directly from Google.
The Android Things developer preview 2 release comes with a handful of new features and several bug fixes. The list goes as follows:
- Support for USB Audio to the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) for Intel Edison and Raspberry Pi 3.
- Bug fixes for Peripheral I/O (PIO)
- Support for Intel Joule platform
- TensorFlow inference library prebuilt for ARM and x86
Android Developer team has also created a sample that shows how to use TenserFlow on Android Things devices. The sample showcases Android Things running on a Raspberry Pi identifying a dog’s breed through camera using the prebuilt libraries.
