Android One to revolutionize budget Android Phones market!

Google has revealed the next version of Android, the Android L. And along with that, Google also announced that it is launching the Android One program, which aims to bring Nexus/GPe devices like updates to the low cost Android Phones priced below $100.

Android One is announced with three Indian Smartphone manufacturers Micromax, Karbonn and Spice on board. The reference device of Android One program is a Micromax phone. The Android One devices have support for features that you’d expect in a budget smartphone for Indian market, such as Dual SIM, external SD card, and even support for FM radio. The showcased Micromax device sports a  4.5 inch screen, screen resolution is not specified.

The Android One devices, being priced under $100 would be cheaper than the budget king Moto E.  Also Android One could reduce the Android fragmentation, which prevails in eastern parts of the world, much greater than other parts, mainly because of non-existent OTA updates and after market development being close to null.

The first Android One device, should come soon with Android 4.4 KitKat. And the OTA updates would be more like that of Nexus devices. This would be a great thing for the low cost smartphone market, for both manufacturers and the customers. It is yet to be seen that if this is the much rumored Android Silver program, or is it a completely different program. Keep your Eyes and Ears on the Google I/O, which is far from over!
