PSA: Rooting Android O (OPP1) isn’t possible currently, SuperSU zip and Magisk both fail

Google just released Android O developer preview release for the Nexus 5X, 6P, Player and all Pixel devices. While there’s a lot of fun and new stuff available on the freshest release of Android, but it might be disheartening for the pro among us to find out that rooting Android O isn’t possible currently.

Although, TWRP recovery works fine on Android O, but flashing either SuperSU zip or Magisk doesn’t give root access on the dev preview. We tested flashing both the files separately on our Nexus 5X running the preview release, but neither achieved root access.

This doesn’t come as a surprise, of course. Android O is a major release and the freshest versions of Android often tend to break root access. Hopefully though, our heroes over at XDA will be able to find a way to get Android O rooted.

We’ll be keeping our eyes on the interwebs for any helpful information on rooting Android O. Stay tuned with us..
