Android 4.2 based AOSP ROM for Samsung Captivate

With an almost fully working Android 4.2 build already out for the Samsung Galaxy S I9000, it was only a matter of time before its US carrier-based cousins got a taste of the same. As it turns out, XDA member AceofSpades90 has released a n early test build of Android 4.2 for the AT&T Samsung Captivate, another best-selling phone from the Galaxy S series.

The test build, dubbed LaNightv9.1, is still under heavy development and testing, but we have no doubt that there will be some good progress soon. The Android 4.2 build, is by no means a daily driver, at least not yet. Have a look at what’s working and what’s not, as quoted from the source thread.

What’s working:
– WiFi
– Bluetooth
– Camera
– Logcat
– Sound
– Surface flinger
– Media Scanner
– Touch
– GPS

What’s not working:
– Data (Partially?)
– Phone (Try different modems and report?)
– Internal Storage (Fixed?)
– Tether (?)
– Settings -> Storage FC
– Mount Ext SD to PC

If  you still want to go ahead and test it out, make sure that you have a secondary device lying around that you can use for the time being. The zip file for the test build can be downloaded from AceofSpades90’s XDA thread and flashed via ClockworkMod Recovery.
