Android 4.1 Update plans for Sony Xperia T/TX/V/J/P/S/SL/acro S/Ion confirmed!

Back in October, Sony made an official announcement about which devices would be getting updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and had confirmed that the Xperia S, acro S, ion, P, go, J, T, TX, and Xperia V would be on the list. Sony has now decided to elaborate on their Jelly Bean update plans.

According to Sony, the Xperia T, TX, and Xperia V will receive the update starting in February and March, followed by the Xperia J, P, and Xperia go in late March. A few weeks later, owners of the Xperia S, SL, acro S, and Xperia Ion will get their helpings of Jelly Bean, completing the end of the rollout for the current generation of available devices.

However, like last time when Sony announced that no 2011 models will be getting updated past 4.0, the bad news now comes to owners of the Xperia miro, tipo, sola, and Xperia U, as these devices will be stuck with Android 4.0 for all eternity (unless of course you turn towards unofficial aftermarket software a la custom ROMs). Some will point out that the Xperia P and U share the same chipset, but the latter only has 512MB of RAM, which is probably the reason why neither of the 2011 models are being upgraded either.

Sony also plans to introduce some new Xperia-specific features with the Jelly Bean update, and with Samsung now differentiating their products with some useful (and some gimmicky) new software features, hopefully Sony will have something similarly enticing if they intend to make an impact in a market dominated by the aforementioned Korean manufacturer.

It will be some time before the update starts rolling out, which is further worsened by the fact that a newer version of Android has already been released by Google, but let us hope the wait will be worth it.
