Google’s chief release engineer Jean-Baptiste Queru (also technical lead of the Android AOSP project) has gone on record and announced Android 4.1.2, which is a minor update over 4.1.1 and should mainly bring fixes and under the hood improvements to Jelly Bean.
Android 4.1.2 will carry the build number JZO54K for the Nexus 7, and the tag for AOSP will be android-4.1.2_r1, and developers will be able sync this update some time later today when it hits AOSP servers. Queru also suggests that developers running custom builds for the Nexus 7 should update to 4.1.2 “at the first opportunity”, as future variants of the device that will hit the market with Android 4.1.2 out of the box will have a minor change in the power management chip, making them incompatible with 4.1.1.
What’s interesting about the release of Android 4.1.2 today is that it comes just a day after pictures of LG’s Nexus device hit the web, showing the device running on Android 4.1.2. Is Google finally hinting at the credibility of all the rumors surrounding the Nexus device that LG is working on, albeit indirectly?
There’s no official changelog available for 4.1.2 yet, but we’ll be sure to update this article once Google sees it fit to let us know what the latest Jelly Bean build brings to the table. Meanwhile, I’ll go look for a ROM based on 4.1.2 for my Galaxy Nexus.
