4GB DDR4 RAM coming to 36% of premium phones next year

For quite a while the DDR3 was the epitome of processors providing the fastest processing speeds, however like everything technology, soon it is going to be a thing of the past while the DDR4 is the new kid in town.

Manufactured by SK hynix-the world’s second-largest memory chip maker-the fourth generation double data rate chips have multiple advantages over their third generation counterparts. Not only does the DDR4 has double the throughput of DDR3 but is also capable of operating at lesser voltages meaning less of a drain on the battery.

The first phone running the DDR4 will be the LG G Flex 2 which will team it with a Snapdragon 810 SoC processor. Samsung however is not far behind and its Galaxy S6 is soon expected to share the spotlight with the Flex 2 with a 3GB DDR4 RAM. In fact as stated by Samsung, all its flagship smartphones this year are supposed to come equipped with the DDR4.

With LG and Samsung taking the lead in employing this brand new technology in their flagship smartphones, we fully expect other manufacturers to follow suit with their own DDR4 RAM based Smartphones. And the 4 GB variants are not far behind, in fact according to IHS almost 36% of premium smartphones next year may be seen with 4GB DDR4 RAM.

Any way it turns out, its a win-win situation for the consumers.
