443PPI LCD display by Sharp enter production now

Sharp has announced that they have will begin full-scale mass production of their new 5-inch 1080p LCD displays for smartphones in October. The displays will sport the highest pixel density of any smartphone display at 443ppi, which is sure to impress the crowds.

According to Sharp, the display uses the CG Silicon LCD technology, has a new pixel design, 1.3 times pixel density of conventional LCD display panels, and can display crisp and smooth text, maps, HD images and video. The resolution of the display will be 1920×1080 pixels, which is a resolution yet to grace any smartphone’s display. HTC’s upcoming Droid Incredible X is rumored to have a 1080p 5-inch display, so it’s possible that Sharp’s display will be the one used in that device, but that remains to be seen as the device itself hasn’t yet been officially confirmed by HTC. Oppo’s Find 5 also sports a 5-inch 1080p display, though it’s highly probable that Oppo is using their own custom displays.

So the sharpest display panels yet will soon enter production, and I hope they are adopted quickly by smartphone manufacturers. No pun intended, but everyone loves a sharp display, right?
